علم اجتماع الغذاء هو علم يختص بدراسة الغذاء من حيث علاقته بالتاريخ، والتقدم، والتنمية المستقبلية للمجتمع. وبالتالي يشمل ذلك تناول الإنتاج والاستهلاك والتوزيع والصراعات والممارسة الطبية والتطبيقات الشعائرية والروحية والأخلاقية والثقافية، فضلًا عن القضايا البيئية وقضايا العمل.
